Today I'm becoming more environmental friendly by making my own baby wipes and wipes solution. From google, I learned that most of them suggest making the wipes with receiving blankets to save budget or just grab a flannel that on sale at store. I dont know what is receiving blankets (I dont take home any blanket from hospital). I also not sure which one is flannel. So to conclude, I just use a terry clothes nappy that I cut into small sizes (my desirable size). I bought three dozen of it for my first baby. I got 16 wipes from a piece of terry cloth nappy which is great enough. I prefer to have smaller size so that I dont stain my cute baby bump like I used to do when wiping with disposable wipes.
Why I choose to use cloth wipes? Obviously the disposable one is fairly expensive. For AUD10 per months, I can save for other important stuff. I cant use cheaper brands because both my babies born with sensitive bump. They want the Johnson and Johnson, Curash or Huggies. Apart from that, as Malaysian, I prefer to wash their bump instead of wipes them. I started to wash the first one when he was nine months old after a very bad nappy rash from diarrhea. (He got the bug from other baby). But now, as the winter is coming, I need to get prepared. Surely it will be cold for the little one.
Anyway, my first experienced with cloth wipes is great. It is smoother, softer and I can feel that it is more clean that the disposable one because I can wipes him without worrying the material will irritate his skin.
I mix my wipes solution from 1/4 cup of olive oil, 1/8 cup baby wash Curash, few drops of essential oils (peppermint oil), and 4 cups of cool boil water. His bump smells of peppermint now.
There a few other recipes that we can use to make wipes solution. Basically the solution consists of
1.Oil (for smooth baby skin and helps the wipe to glide over the skin),
2.Soap (To clean)
3.Essential oils (Antibacterial and aromatherapy)
4.Water (Cleaning and diluting agent)
